A Hatzolah of Canarsie Ambulance transporting a 95 year-old heart patient to the hospital at 4:00 pm was hit by a 2002 Nissan Maxima, causing the ambulance to overturn with the patient and several crew and family members inside. The patient died  but it has not yet been determined if it was the result of the accident or due to her heart condition.

The ambulance was travelling southbound on Schenectady Avenue when it was hit by the Maxima travelling westbound on Ave N in Flatlands. Six crew members and a family member accompanying the patient were injured by the impact, and passersby assisted the ambulance crew as they exited the overturned vehicle. Emergency workers transported the injured to local hospitals.

Surveillance cameras from a local business captured the accident, but it was unclear which vehicle had the right of way.
