Israeli officials have intercepted a cache of gold headed for Gaza, hidden in an ordinary shipment of tomatoes.

The Defense Ministry said their agents thwarted on Monday an attempted smuggling of 13 gold bars hidden at the bottom of cardboard boxes containing 20 tons of tomatoes.

The ministry’s Border Crossing Authority showed footage of the boxes, which were seized at the Kerem Shalom crossing.

No further details were available about who the smugglers were.
