Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn informed Defense Minister Benny Gantz of his decision to leave Blue and White and join Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai’s new party.

Nissenkorn said “We will bring news to hundreds of thousands of Israelis who feel they have no political home – and we will do so in deeds and not only in words.”

Nissenkorn, a former Blue and White faction head, turned down offers from Yesh Atid and Labor.

The mayor is expected to formally announce Tuesday night that he is entering national politics and forming a new party. Huldai is expected to keep up with his duties as mayor as he runs for office.

“Hundreds of thousands of Israelis feel they currently have no political home,” said Huldai, who has been mayor since 1998. “We will raise their heads and return hope to them. The time has come to present a clear alternative.”
