Preparations were being made on Tuesday to accommodate as many members of the public as possible for tefillos at the Kosel on Shavuos.
Normally, many thousands of mispallelim throng the Kosel plaza on Shavuos and the Shabbos prior to it. The birkas Kohanim in particular, has been a magnet for Jews from all over Israel and abroad.
This year, during the coronavirus pandemic, however, social distancing regulations will make it impossible to allow the plaza to fill with crowds.
In response, The Western Wall Heritage Foundation has arranged for an online lottery, the winners of which will be allowed entry to the Kosel on specified days and hours. Each person will be permitted access for one tefillah only.
The lottery will take place on Sunday, Rosh Chodesh Sivan.
