Poll Shows Strong Support for New Government
A poll released on Tuesday night showed that a decisive 62 percent of Israelis are in support of the government being formed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Blue and White leader Benny Gantz.
Despite angry denunciations of the Netanyahu-Gantz deal from Yair Lapid, Moshe Yaalon and left-wing leaders, only 22 percent of those polled by Channel 13 said they oppose it.
Yet, along with overall support goes a large helping of cynicism. Only 31 said they believe PM Netanyahu will honor the deal and vacate the Prime Minister’s Office in 18 months for Gantz to take over; 41 percent believe he’ll find a way to hold onto power, and 23 percent don’t know.
