Two years after planning began, the final plans for what will be the largest industrial zone in Yehudah and Shomron have been approved. The Sha’ar Shomron Industrial Zone, to be located just inside Shomron along Road 5, will encompass 3,000 dunams on both sides of the highway, and eventually host an Israel Railways station.

Besides buildings to house what are foreseen to be the mostly high-tech tenants of the site, the Sha’ar Shomron industrial zone will feature areas for shopping, leisure and services, as well as schools and community centers.

Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan said that “the industrial zone will change the equation as we grow towards a million Jewish residents in Yehudah and Shomron. Besides providing places of employment for both Jews and Arabs, it will feature advanced technologies and become a strategic economic anchor for Israel. The proximity to Road 5 will allow access to Israel’s economic heartland, as well as ports. This project represents a tremendous economic opportunity for Israel.”
