Paramedics from the Arab village of Abu Gosh near Yerushalayim will be working alongside Hatzalah volunteers in Uman to provide emergency services during the Yamim Noraim, under a psak of United Hatzalah’s rabbinical board and leading poskim.
Ayman Ibrahim, chairman of the Abu Gosh delegation, confirmed that they have agreed to take part in the Hatzalah-led operation in Uman where tens of thousands will be gathering for Rosh Hashana at the kever of Rav Nachman of Breslov, zy”a. He said they have pledged to do so in full accordance with the rulings of the Rabbanim.
Rabbi Naftali Halperin, the halachic coordinator for International Hatzalah, explained that “we are talking about technical matters that are not categorized as pikuach nefesh, but will help to save lives.”
“The intention is that they will carry out as needed any action which, according to halachah, is either forbidden or preferably not done by Jews on Shabbos or Yom Tov,” Rav Halperin said.
