Rivlin: I Will Do Everything to Prevent Another Election

As the coalition dealing drags on and nears the midnight deadline, President Reuven Rivlin said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that he “will do everything in my power to prevent Israel from heading toward another election campaign.”

Rivlin said that he plans to invite party heads to once again confer over their preferred course of action, would the deadline expire and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu not be able to form a government.

Rivlin noted that while it is in his power to task another MK with attempting to form a government – should Netanyahu fail to do so – he added that if the Knesset passes a dissolution bill, there will be no alternative to holding a new election.
