Report: Mossad Warned U.S. of Iran Threat

Intelligence supplied by the Mossad regarding Iranian intentions to harm U.S. interests in the Gulf led to the deployment of a naval task force in the region, according to media reports on Monday.

Relying at least in part on that information, U.S. national security adviser John Bolton threatened Iran with “unrelenting force” on Sunday night, according to the Axios news site quoting senior Israeli officials.

A U.S. defense official said that American forces at sea and on land were thought to be the targets, though it appeared that the intelligence community had not succeeded in pinning down the exact nature of the threat. The official was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and requested anonymity.

Possible Iranian plots against the U.S. or its allies in the Gulf were discussed two weeks ago in talks held at the White House between an Israeli delegation headed by national security adviser Meir Ben Shabbat and a U.S. team led by Bolton, Israeli officials reportedly said.
