Report: Captured Shepherd Divulged Islamic Jihad Attack Plan

YERUSHALAYIM -

Israeli security forces gained information about a planned terror attack by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) from a shepherd detained near the Gaza border fence, according to the Yerushalayim-based al-Quds newspaper.

The shepherd reportedly divulged to Israeli interrogators that the PIJ was plotting to abduct either a soldier patroling the area or a civilian construction worker on the new barrier around Gaza. He said that he himself was a member of the PIJ.

The terror group has denied that it intended an attack along the border, aimed at disrupting Egyptian-brokered ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. PIJ said it told the Egyptians that it would abide by any agreement reached.
