Gas prices are beginning the spring with a surge that has motorists digging deeper at the pump, but they aren’t expected to reach the highs of last spring.

AAA says the national average gas price Friday was also $2.69 a gallon, up eight cents from last week and four cents above the national average of $2.65 a year ago.

Analysts expect gas prices to increase further over the next few weeks, but prices aren’t expected to reach last spring’s high of $2.92.
