Runaway Cow Leads Police on Chase Down Highway

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) —

A cow that escaped from a truck bound for the slaughterhouse gave authorities a run for their money before being subdued early Thursday.

State troopers and Paterson police responded after the bovine breakout occurred at about 2:40 a.m. and the cow ran across I-80. One officer tried to get the cow under control using a rope but was unsuccessful. A video showed officers using a tow strap to coax the cow back over a guardrail.

Employees from the Skylands Animal Sanctuary took the animal to be examined by a veterinarian.
