Tribute to Rebbetzin Miriam Libby Weiss, A”h, at Agudah of Staten Island Annual Dinner

Staten Island

Over 300 members of the Staten Island community and beyond gathered on Thursday night, 6 Teves, to honor Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss, Mara d’Asra of Agudah of Staten Island for 35 years, and to commemorate the first yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Miriam Libby Weiss, a”h.

Mr. Mendy Schwartz, president of the shul, spoke about his personal interactions with the Rebbetzin, and said that the famous bench outside her home, which was the conduit for much tzedakah and chessed, surely brought her to a place right by the Kisei Hakavod. He then introduced Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss.

Rabbi Weiss shared some special memories of his unforgettable Rebbetzin, who stood at his side all her life and put her own interests aside so that her husband should be able to give shiurim and engage in harbotzas haTorah. Even when she was sick and in tremendous pain, she put her husband and children first.

Rabbi Weiss spoke of her devotion to the shul — she personally got on the floor to lay new tiles —and her efforts to make it beautiful and pleasant. Everyone considered Rebbetzin Miriam Libby her friend, because she was.

Rabbi Nechemya Weiss finished Shas and made a siyum in honor of her yarhrtzeit and he and Rabbi Yaakov Weiss shared memories of their mother and of her strong love for them.

Harav Tzvi Halevi Pollak, shlita, Rav of Khal Agudas Shomrei Adas D’Grossvardein, recited the Keil Malei Rachamim.

The journal, featuring over 300 ads and letters in her honor, was distributed at the dinner. A beautiful, hardcover keepsake edition of the journal will be published, which will also include all the ads and letters that are still pouring in after the dinner.

To contribute to the journal, please contact Mr. Mendy Schwartz at emes18@aol.com or 516-782-8099.
