Honduras is in line to be the next country to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Yerushalayim.

Lawmakers in Honduras voted in April to approve a non-binding resolution calling on President Juan Orlando Hernandez to make the move, and Hernandez sent a senior diplomatic team to Israel for talks with the director-general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yuval Rotem.

A plan has been drawn up and a possible site has already been selected, according to Israel’s Channel 2.

However, the Hernandez administration is reportedly asking for some things in return, including upgrading Israel’s diplomatic mission in Honduras to a full embassy, closer economic ties, and technical assistance from the “start-up nation.”

At present, Israel maintains a consulate in the capital Tegucigalpa. The cost of running a full-fledged embassy has been estimated at one million dollars a year.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon confirmed the delegation’s visit, but said only that it is an “ongoing process of discussions that has yet to mature.”

There was no immediate confirmation from Tegucigalpa.
