The baby, named Amiad Yisroel, who was born prematurely following the Ofra terror attack, died on Wednesday evening, it was announced at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

“With great sorrow we announce the death of Shira and Amichai [Ish-Ron]’s newborn four days after the attack despite the efforts of doctors at the neonatal intensive care unit to save him,” a spokesperson for the hospital said, referring to the baby’s parents.

The child’s mother, who arrived at the hospital in critical condition, has shown improvement and she has been awakened from sedation and doctors say her condition has stabilized.

She was allowed to see her baby for the first time only on Wednesday morning.

News of the tragedy drew expressions of condolences and calls for building in Yehudah and Shomron in response to terror.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told a gathering of foreign media correspondents on Wednesday night.

“Our hearts are with Shira and Amichai over the passing of their four-day-old son who did not even have a name. The murderers are abhorrent, the most deviant criminals on earth. The security forces are pursuing them and I hope that there will be news soon on this matter. We will not slacken until we find them and deal with them to the fullest extent of the law.”

The Elon Moreh municipality, where the Ish-Rons live, released a statement saying:

“The Elon Moreh municipality embraces the residents of the community of Shira and Amichai Ish-Ron during their difficult time. We are shocked and hurt and call upon the prime minister and the defense minister to strengthen deterrence against terrorism and at the same time to cut off our enemy’s hopes by strengthening our hold on Elon Moreh and settling in Yehudah and Shomron.”

Education Minister Naftali Bennett called for a tough response.

“A Jewish baby that still hadn’t been named was murdered… his short life was a struggle for his life,” Bennett wrote on Twitter. “This is a despicable murder by terrorists who have stopped fearing us. We must restore the lost deterrence; otherwise a wave of murders is on the way,” he added.

Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel (Likud) pledged that Israel would “exact a price from the scum” behind the attack.

EU Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret tweeted that he was “saddened” by the death.

The burial was held late Wednesday night on Har Hazeisim.
