Outrage Over Flagrant Chillul Shabbos in Teveria
Residents of the city of Teveria expressed deep pain and outrage after newly elected Mayor Ron Kobi sponsored a public event on Friday night which flagrantly promoted chillul Shabbos.
Kobi’s successful election campaign was based on incitement against the chareidim, even using a slogan “Preferably an Arab city than a Chareidi city.”
Even the notices about the event — to which all the residents of the city were invited to — and signed by the mayor, included insolent wording that scorned the sanctity of Shabbos. The invitations included a call to local stores to open their businesses on Shabbos.
The anguished neighbors reported that the event continued until late at night.
