Orthodox Groups Praise Haley

The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America expressed its sincere gratitude to H.E. Nikki Haley for her outstanding service to the United States and the world through her service as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

The Orthodox Union particularly notes Amb. Haley’s staunch support for the State of Israel.

Soon after becoming ambassador, Amb. Haley made clear that she would be a strong supporter of Israel, taking on its many longtime foes in the United Nations. She was also vocal about the ill treatment she witnessed against Israel at the U.N., stating recently: “When I saw literally how abusive all of those countries were being to Israel…I had no choice but to get up and say this is completely wrong.”

Orthodox Union President Moishe Bane stated: “Ambassador Nikki Haley has been a tremendous public servant for this country. We will miss her willingness to stand up for what is right and speak strongly to those who use the United Nations to unfairly attack the United States and other countries. We are confident that after an appropriate break, the U.S. will again benefit from Amb. Haley’s principled leadership.”

Orthodox Union Executive Director for Public Policy Nathan Diament stated: “We are very grateful for Amb. Haley’s outstanding service to the United States of America and its allies, especially Israel. Amb. Haley had the courage and good sense to refuse to accept longstanding bias against Israel at the U.N. Through her decisive actions, she taught the U.N. and the world right from wrong.”

Ambassador Haley’s voice was clear and consistent in championing the causes of human rights and democracy across the globe. Her strong support of Israel and articulate defense of its security made her a deeply respected figure in the Orthodox Jewish community Agudath Israel represents and among citizens of goodwill of all faiths. She will be long remembered as a fearless fighter against the pervasive anti-Israel hypocrisy of the United Nations.

We wish Ambassador Haley well as she leaves her post, and look forward to working with her again in the years ahead in whatever form of public service she may undertake.
