BD”E: Harav Shlomo Elyashiv, Zt”l

Thousands took part in the levayah of Harav Shlomo Elyashiv, zt”l, eldest son of Posek Hador Hagaon Harav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt”l, on Motzoei Shabbos in Yerushalayim.

Harav Shlomo, named for his noted great-grandfather Harav Shlomo Elyashiv, the Leshem, was born in 5691/1931, to his parents Harav Yosef Shalom and Rebbetzin Sheina Chayah, a”h, the daughter of Harav Aryeh Levin, zt”l.

When he became of age, he married Rebbetzin Fruma, the daughter of Harav Tanchum Donin, zt”l, a Dayan in Haifa.

Reb Shlomo was close to his uncle, Harav Eliezer Platchinsky, and learned together with him for many years.

He was known as a talmid chacham, who never wanted to take up a Torah position, preferring to remain out of the limelight. His official title was Rav of the Tiferes Bachurim shul, where his father delivered shiurim.

In recent years, due to ill health, Reb Shlomo was hospitalized.

In 5769/2009, his son, Harav Avraham, was niftar. In 5775/2015, his wife was niftar.

The levayah was held Motzoei Shabbos to Har Hamenuchos, where he was buried near his illustrious father.

Reb Shlomo is survived by many descendants, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Yehi zichro baruch.
