The Democrat made his remarks Friday at an event on Long Island where he announced that additional pieces of the old Tappan Zee Bridge will be reused to create more artificial reefs.

Cuomo says it would be an “act of insanity” to allow drilling off New York. He said the state predicts that an oil spill close to New York City would impact the entire region’s coastline and send pollution up the Hudson River as far as Poughkeepsie.

While the state can’t control federal waters, it could prohibit pipelines being built from drilling platforms to the New York mainland.
