Cuomo Blasts Reporter’s Company After Question on Donations

ALBANY (AP) —

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has criticized a reporter’s employer after the journalist asked about political contributions from a company under federal investigation.

NY1 reporter Zack Fink asked the Democrat on Tuesday if he’s considering returning $400,000 linked to Crystal Run Healthcare, which later received millions of dollars in state funding. The company is now under federal investigation.

In response, Gov. Cuomo noted that state regulators recently revoked its approval of the merger of Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable, the parent company of NY1, for allegedly not meeting its service promises. Cuomo told Fink that he and his company were “defrauding the people of this state.”

Charter representatives did not immediately respond.

Cuomo’s Democratic primary challenger Cynthia Nixon likened his comments to Republican President Donald Trump’s attacks on journalists.
