2 Major New Jersey Highway Service Areas to Close for Renovations

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (AP) —

Motorists will have to wait to get gas or use the facilities on two toll roads in central New Jersey after Labor Day.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority said Tuesday that the Thomas Edison service area on the turnpike in Woodbridge and the Monmouth service area on the Garden State Parkway in Wall will close for major renovations after Sept. 3. They will not reopen until Memorial Day 2019, which means no gas stations or restrooms.

Gov. Chris Christie announced last year that all 16 service areas in New Jersey would be renovated. HMSHost and Sunoco will fund the $250 million project in exchange for operating the food and fuel concessions for the next 25 years.
