Report: Israeli Jets Hit Iranian Target in Syria

Syrian state news said on Sunday that an Israeli airstrike had hit a military post in the city of Misyaf in Syria’s Hama province but caused only material damage.

The newsflash did not elaborate on what exactly had been targeted. An intelligence source said a major military research center for chemical arms production was located near the city.

A war monitor, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the air strike targeted a “workshop supervised by Iranians where surface-to-surface missiles are made.”

“Iranian forces, and forces from Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, are deployed in that sector,” Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

There was no official comment from Israel, but the strike came just hours after& Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned, “We will not stop taking action in Syria against Iran’s attempts to establish a military presence there,” he said in a statement from his office.

The warning was included in a statement confirming that Israel had helped in rescuing Syrian White Helmets at the request of the U.S. and European allies, but said the humanitarian act was not to be misconstrued as a change in Israel’s policy toward the Iranian presence across the border.

Sunday’s was the fourth report in a month of Israeli air strikes against Iranian targets in Syria.
