The IDF is building a new base – but what is unique about this base is that the construction work is being done by a Palestinian contractor, who is doing his work without any security supervision, Hadashot News reported.

The Palestinian in question is a resident of the town of Yatta, in the south Chevron Hills – known for producing terrorists. Many of the workers the Palestinian is employing are residents of the village, as well. Footage broadcast by Hadashot News shows that the contractor is building fortifications, security cameras and lighting systems. The report said that the IDF has received strong criticism from some security officials over the matter.

In a statement, the IDF said that the base was being rehabilitated for general purpose use, and “will not be used for sensitive purposes. No soldiers are present at the site, and all workers have undergone a thorough security investigation by the IDF. The IDF and Defense Ministry are aware of the situation and all aspects of the base will be tested and examined before it is put into use.”
