Drunk Man Driving in Wrong Direction Causes Fatal Accident on Belt Parkway

BROOKLYN

An intoxicated man driving the wrong way on the Belt Parkway caused a fatal accident early Thursday morning.

Aleh Sheipak, 50, of Sheepshead Bay, was driving his Volkswagen SUV eastbound in the westbound lane of the Belt Parkway, near exit 4 around the Verrazano Bridge approach, when he crashed into a Honda Accord shortly before 2:00 a.m., according to the NYPD. The rear-seat passenger in the Accord, 27-year-old Gerald Obah of Manhattan’s Kips Bay Neighborhood, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver, 20, and a passenger, 29, in the front seat of the Accord, are in stable condition. Sheipak, the sole occupant of his vehicle, is also in stable condition. All were taken to local hospitals.

Sheipak has been charged with multiple crimes, including manslaughter, vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.
