Netanyahu Hints Israeli Hand in Thwarting Iranian Terror Cell in France

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu denounced Iranian hypocrisy on Wednesday night and hinted that Israel had a hand in thwarting an Iranian terror plot in France over the weekend.

“Here is an example of the endless hypocrisy and chutzpah of Iran: The week Iran’s president meets with European leaders to try and overcome President Trump’s sanctions regime … Iran plans a terror attack on French soil,” Netanyahu said.

“It was no coincidence that this attack was thwarted,” he added. In recent months, Netanyahu said that Israel was instrumental in stopping large-scale terror attacks in Europe.

“I call on European leaders: Stop financing the terror regime that organizes terror against you on your soil. Enough of the policy of appeasement and weakness with Iran,” he concluded in a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Foreign ministers from China, France, Germany, Britain and Russia are set to meet with Iranian officials on Friday in Vienna to discuss how to keep a 2015 nuclear accord alive after U.S. President Donald Trump abandoned the pact in May.

The European Commission is proposing that EU governments make direct money transfers to Iran’s central bank to avoid U.S. penalties, but detailed plans have yet to emerge, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
