NYC Bill to Require Smoke Alarms in Every Home

NEW YORK (Hamodia staff ) —

A lawmaker whose Midwood district has suffered two deadly fires in the past three years introduced a bill in the city council on Thursday to require every home have a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch’s bill will mandate that all homes to install smoke detecting devices on every floor. Apartment buildings will also need to have smoke detecting devices and carbon monoxide alarms in common areas and in living quarters.

“Installing a smoke/CO alarm in your home is the easiest way to protect your family,” Deutsch said.
