IDF Soldier Critically Injured in Ramallah Riot

An IDF soldier in the Duvdevan elite fighting unit was critically injured early Thursday, the IDF said. The injury occurred in the course of carrying out a mission in a refugee camp near Ramallah. The soldier was struck with a large piece of stone or marble in the head.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. A unit of Duvdevan soldiers entered Ramallah to arrest suspected terrorists. During the arrests a riot broke out, with Arabs throwing rocks and bricks at soldiers. Among the items thrown was a large slab of marble, which was hurled from a rooftop. It is apparently the marble that struck the soldier in the head, sending him to the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Yerushalayim, in critical condition. No other soldiers were injured, baruch Hashem, and the arrests were completed successfully.

In a statement, the IDF said that the incident was being investigated. A search is underway for the individual who threw the slab of marble. The family of the injured soldier has been informed of the situation, the army said.
