Melbourne’s Rav Beck Announces Move to Eretz Yisrael

In a sudden move, Harav Avraham Tzvi Beck, Rav of Kehillas Adass Yisrael, in Melbourne, Australia, announced Wednesday that he will be moving to Eretz Yisrael in a few weeks.

The venerated Rav Beck has served as Rav of Adass for three decades.

In a letter released to the community, Rav Beck writes that “it has always been known that I intended to return to Eretz Yisrael, and after intense consultation with doctors it has been decided that now is the time to move. As such I would like to do this as soon as possible, b’ezras Hashem.

“I’ve therefore written this letter to express my strong feelings regarding my departure to all members of the community, each of whom are close to my heart, after we have together pursued avodas Haboreh, Torah learning, ahavas Hashem over these past 30 years.

“I also want to express my strong gratitude and thanks to all those who have stood by me over the years, and to those who still lend their help and support physically, financially and emotionally. It’s impossible to enumerate them individually as they are too numerous to count.”

The Rav notes that his “friendship and connection to the Kehillah shall endure, and with the help of Hashem I will continue to daven and appeal to Hashem on your behalf indefinitely. In return I request that you continue to consider me in your own tefillos, and cry out for my complete recovery and for the recovery of the Rebbetzin amongst other cholei Yisrael. I implore you to tell over divrei Torah that I have taught you on various occasions.”

He signed off the letter with a brachah: “May Hashem bring us together permanently in our land with the coming of Moshiach, and the rebuilding of the Beis Hamikdash speedily in our days.”

The committee of Kehillah Adass Yisrael released a statement after the letter of the Rav, showing the pain and surprise accros the community, of learning of the Rav’s leave.

“Although the Rav has previously mentioned his desire to move to Eretz Yisrael, the Kehillah committee and members along with the Rov’s talmidim and Chassidim worldwide, are still digesting this announcement.

“Harav Beck has been the Rav of our Kehillah and the Mara D’Asra of the Melbourne chareidi community for 30 years.

“We respect the Rav’s wishes and with a heavy heart will assist him in this historic move to Eretz Yisrael.”

The kehillah is planning a mesibah for Rav Beck ahead of his move, in the coming weeks.

All are asked to daven for the refuah of Harav Avraham Tzvi ben Sarah and his Rebbetzin, Beila bas Rivkah.
