Drug-Smuggling Ring Broken on Israel-Sinai Border

YERUSHALAYIM

Israeli security forces broke up a smuggling ring that was bringing drugs across the Israeli-Sinai border and had sabotaged military infrastructure in order to carry out their extensive drug operations.

A joint operation of the Shin Bet and the Israel Police arrested eight Israeli citizens, residents of Bir Hadaj, who ran the illicit business. The arrests were made last month, and the news was cleared for publication Wednesday

This sabotage negatively affected the security operations of the IDF on the border, according to a statement released by the IDF.

The Southern district prosecution indicted the members of the cell on Wednesday at the Beersheva District Court; five of them were indicted on serious security charges.
