Mom, Daughter Earn the Same Degree Simultaneously

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. – A mom and daughter are getting their master’s degree in social work together, the Journal News reported. Shauniqua Key, 23, will graduate from the University of Pennsylvania on Monday, followed on May 23 by her mother, Gloria Key, at Fordham.

NY Teen Is Ambassador For Tourette Association

DIX HILLS, N.Y. – An 18-year-old with Tourette syndrome became the ambassador for the Tourette Association of America’s national awareness walk, saying he wants to show kids “anything is possible,” WNYW reported. Blaise Urato is unable to control tics but he plans to pursue a degree in aviation.

Girl Jumping on Bed Dies After Falling Out of Window

NEWARK – A 6-year-old girl jumping on her bed Monday night fell out of an open window at her family’s third-floor apartment and tragically died, The Associated Press reported. The death of Yodia Encarnacion is under investigation.

Couple Arrested for Making Up Child Cancer to Get Money

SYRACUSE – A couple who pretended their 9-year-old son had blood cancer in order to solicit $3,000 from sympathetic donors was arrested, The Associated Press reported. GoFundMe said that anyone who donated to the campaign will have their money refunded.

Dodging Smoke, Police Rescue Man From Burning Car

ROSELLE PARK, N.J. – Police on Saturday rescued a Washington state man who was refusing to get out even as smoke and flames consumed his car, The Associated Press reported. The 42-year-old was sleeping in the vehicle and may have pressed the gas pedal, causing the engine to overheat and catch fire.
