E-commerce giant Amazon has rented 37,000 square meters of space in Tel Aviv and Haifa, the News One news site reported Tuesday. The company will rent 25,000 square meters of space in the Azrieli Center towers in Tel Aviv, and an additional 12,000 in the Gav Yam project in Haifa, the site reported.

According to the site, the deals are among the largest rentals ever for a single company in either city. Along with the space, the company is renting parking spaces, and is expected to hire as many as 2,500 new employees.

Amazon began working in Israel three and a half years ago. The company does not sell directly to Israelis via its site , but it does do a great deal of research and development work for services in its cloud system, Amazon Web Services.

The company already has several hundred employees in Israel, the news site said, and the new deal will see the company significantly increase its activities here, it added.
