Bronx Man Arrested in Stray Bullet Shooting of Boy, 5

NEW YORK (AP) —

New York City police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 5-year-old boy who was celebrating his birthday in the Bronx.

Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Quiles, of the Bronx, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted murder. Information on his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.

Police say Quiles was in a dispute with two other men when he fired several shots outside a building on Washington Avenue.

Police say one of the bullets struck the boy in the head as he was being walked to a waiting car after visiting his father. It happened just after 5 p.m. Monday.

The boy’s father rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Police were still reviewing surveillance video that was recovered at the scene.
