A roof collapsed without warning at a construction site in the central town of Ganei Tikva on Thursday, injuring four workers, one of them seriously.

A witness working in a building across the street told Channel 2 News, “I heard a big noise and then spine-chilling screams. I saw a laborer under the collapsed ceiling, and all the workers trying to rescue him with sticks and poles. There were a few moments of silence and then all the ambulance and police sirens began.”

Yuval Mizrachi, the first medical emergency responder to arrive at the scene said “When I arrived, I found four workers who were suffering from a variety of injuries following the collapse of a roof at the construction site. I called the United Hatzalah dispatcher at 1221 and asked for more volunteers to be sent to the scene. The Fire and Rescue services sent a large force to the area to help dig out the injured prior to the EMS teams being able to treat the injured. After being rescued and treated on scene, the injured were evacuated to Beilinson Hospital for further treatment.”

The Magen David Adom emergency service reported that a man aged 24 sustained moderate to serious injuries to his limbs. A 30-year-old was moderately injured and two — also reportedly in their 30s — were lightly hurt.

As of late Thursday afternoon, it did not appear that anyone was trapped under the debris, but police said searches were continuing.
