Greenfield: End the Ticket Cameras on Ocean Parkway
A Brooklyn lawmaker is calling on the NYPD to add patrols on Ocean Parkway for reckless and speeding drivers instead of speed cameras that arbitrarily ticket drivers.
Councilman David Greenfield wrote in a letter asking for an end to the speed camera program on south Brooklyn’s major artery. “New York’s Finest … should keep children and families safe along Ocean Parkway, not machines,” he said.
In related news, state Sen. Simcha Felder and Assemblyman Steve Cymbrowitz introduced a bill to restore Ocean Parkway as a 30-mph zone.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has reduced the maximum speed to 25 mph. He said it would save lives on one of the city’s most dangerous roadways but it has frustrated drivers.
