NY Unemployment Drops to Lowest Level in a Decade
New York’s unemployment rate has dipped to its lowest level in nearly a decade, according to numbers released Thursday by the state Department of Labor.
Unemployment fell to 4.6 percent in January, the lowest level since June 2007. In New York City, the rate fell from 4.9 in December to 4.5 percent in January, its lowest level on record going back to 1976.
In the past year, jobs in education and health services have increased. Manufacturing and construction sectors have lost jobs.
