Slow Zone Coming to Boro Park’s 19th Avenue

BROOKLYN

Responding to a longstanding request by Councilman David Greenfield, the city is installing a slow zone on 19th Avenue between 54th and 58th streets to ease the hazardous conditions for pedestrians.

The zone, which will come within three months, reduces the speed limit to 20 miles per hour — 5 miles less per hour than the rest of the city. Tests show that pedestrians struck by vehicles traveling 20 mph are more likely to survive the crash than if the cars travel 30 mph or faster.

“This is a major victory for pedestrian safety,” Greenfield said.
