Humpback Whale Found Dead Along Banks of River
A humpback whale has been found dead along the banks of a river in southern New Jersey.
Bob Schoelkopf, of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, told NJ.com Monday that the whale is the same injured one that was found earlier this year in the Delaware Bay.
It was found in the Cohansey River in Fairfield Township.
Schoelkopf says that security video from PSEG Nuclear’s Artificial Island nuclear generating station showed that the whale’s flipper was injured when it was seen there. He says it’s unlikely the flipper injury killed the whale.
He says the whale was about 30 to 35 feet long and weighed about 10 tons.
