Gov. Christie Vows to Veto Funds for Sanctuary Cities

TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie said Monday he would “veto on arrival” a bill to provide billions of dollars in state funds to sanctuary cities such as Newark, Camden and Jersey City, to replace federal funding lost for not enforcing immigration laws, The Associated Press reported.

NY: Alleged Climate Change to Add 6 Feet of Water

ALBANY – New York state adopted official projections of supposed climate change, projecting that sea levels along the coastline could rise by as much as six feet by 2100, The Associated Press reported. A law signed in 2014 requires the state to adopt official sea level projections to help communities deal with it.

JFK Hotel to Pay $65,000 to Settle Price Gouging Probe

NEW YORK – The Marriott hotel at JFK Airport was ordered Monday to pay $48,000 in restitution to settle allegations they gouged customers during a heavy snowstorm last year January, The Associated Press reported. Hundreds of stranded people were forced to pay drastically hiked rates.

NJ Senate Votes to Set Up Human Milk Bank Standards

TRENTON – The state Senate unanimously approved legislation Monday to set up standards for human milk banks in New Jersey, The Associated Press reported. The banks must first register with the Health Department. As yet there are no such banks in New Jersey.

Fire Kills as Many as 100 Calves at Upstate Farm

FORT COVINGTON, N.Y. – A fire broke out Wednesday at an upstate dairy farm, killing as many as 100 calves, the Press-Republican reported. The barn was fully engulfed in flames when more than 50 firefighters arrived. The bitter cold conditions kept the flames from spreading.

Woman Stole $14K in Quarters From Laundry Machines

CLAY, N.Y. – A former leasing agent for an apartment complex was arrested for stealing $14,000 in quarters from coin-operated laundry machines over a 10-month period, The Associated Press reported. Alisha Russell of Syracuse had a key to the machines and regularly collected the money as part of her job.
