Former PA Intel Officer Arrested for Weapons Trading
The IDF has arrested a former general in the Palestinian Authority intelligence services on charges of involvement in illegal weapons training, The Jerusalem Post reported on Wednesday.
Talal Dweikat, a former intel officer and Tulkarem and Jenin governor, was detained “for his involvement in advanced weapons trade,” a Shin Bet spokesman said, without elaborating.
Additionally, the army arrested two others in Shechem and raided the home of Dweikat’s brother, Sarhan Dweikat, also a high-ranking officer. They were allegedly guilty of throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails and pipe bombs, the army said.
Wafa, the official PA news site, confirmed the arrest, and accused Israel of persecuting the Palestinian leadership.
