Aron Weider Loses Assembly Race in Orange County
Rockland County legislator Aron Weider lost an Assembly race to Republican incumbent Karl Brabebec in Tuesday’s election. Brabenec won the district which is home to Kiryas Joel and parts of Ramapo by a 52 to 35 percent margin.
In Boro Park, Rachel Freier won the election for civil court judge, defeating Mordechai Avigdor. Freier ran as a Democrat while Avigdor, who had lost the Democratic nomination to Freier in September, was on the Conservative party line.
In other local races, State Sen. Simcha Felder coasted to a second term, having secured all three major party lines — Democrat, Republican and Conservative.
In nearby Midwood, Robert Carroll easily overcame a little-known Conservative to become the next assemblyman. The Democrat will replace the retiring James Brennan. The district consists of between 12 and 15 percent Orthodox Jews.
