Israeli Rescue Team to Search for Missing Nepal Hiker

An Israeli rescue team was preparing to leave for Nepal, as the search for Amit Reichman continued. Reichman has not been heard from since last weekend, and family members and friends fear for his fate.

The 42-year-old Nes Ziona resident had been hiking in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas over the past several weeks. Images he posted on social media that family and friends were using to keep track of his experiences suddenly stopped last Sunday. The last images showed him at a pre-Sukkos event in Nepal’s Chabad House.

His wife, who had returned to Israel while Amit continued his trek, said that he had been last seen leaving the guesthouse where he was staying on October 16th.

Israeli officials said they were “optimistic and hoped for the best. It is certainly possible for a hiker to get lost or end up in a region where there are no communication options, or where it is difficult to return from. There are ways of surviving in all climates and regional conditions.”
