Communities in New York state will receive more than $8 million to help them make sidewalks and crosswalks accessible to people with disabilities.
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced the funding on Wednesday. It’s a mix of state and federal funds that will pay for construction work to make pedestrian areas compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Schumer, a Democrat, says the money will be an “enormous resource” to communities working to ensure their sidewalks and crosswalks can accommodate all New Yorkers.
Communities in Westchester County will receive more than $4 million of the funds, the largest share of the total.
