6 Thrown Into Water After Boats Collide Off Long Island

POINT LOOKOUT, N.Y. (AP) —

Three adults and three children have been pulled from the water after they were thrown from their boat in a collision off the coast of Long Island.

Newsday reports the operator of a 21-foot boat blamed sun glare after he hit the 14-foot vessel carrying six people at around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Jones Beach inlet off Point Lookout in Hempstead, in Nassau County.

Police say the smaller boat had children ages 1, 3 and 10 and it started sinking after the collision. The two people on the larger boat and another vessel pulled the victims from the water before emergency personnel arrived.

Authorities say all six were wearing life jackets. No injuries were reported.

The smaller boat sank.

Police say there was no apparent criminality.
