Judge Dismisses Last Charge Against Former Hackensack Police Chief

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) -

A judge has dismissed the last remaining official misconduct charge levied against a former Hackensack police chief.

A judge on Tuesday dismissed the charge against former Hackensack Police Chief Ken Zisa on the grounds that it violates his right against double jeopardy.

Zisa’s attorney says her client will now begin the “impossible task of reconstructing his life.”

Zisa was convicted in 2012 and sentenced to five years in prison for improperly removing his friend from the scene of an accident in 2008 and filing a fraudulent insurance claim. But a judge dismissed three of the convictions.

An appeals courts last year also dismissed the insurance fraud charge.

Steele says all of the state’s key witnesses had credibility and bias issues.
