YERUSHALAYIM – An Israeli Border Policeman was suspended from his job on Tuesday after a video showed him confiscating a bicycle from an eight-year-old Palestinian girl in Chevron.
The video, posted by the NGO B’Tselem, showed the officer running after the girl, Anwar Burkan, on a street near Me’aras Hamachpelah. The girl screamed as the policeman grabbed her bicycle. Then she ran off crying.
After a break in the 1-minute, 12-second clip, the policeman is next seen throwing the bicycle in the bushes. The incident occurred a week ago, but the video was not made public until Monday.
The Border Police issued a statement saying it regretted the incident, which it took very seriously. An investigation into the incident was opened, a spokesman added.
