Work On New Albany Convention Center Hits Milestone
Work on a new convention center in Albany has hit a key milestone.
State and local officials recently celebrated the “topping off” of the new facility, an event marking the end of major steel work at the worksite.
When it’s completed in early 2017 the new center near the state Capitol will join an existing convention center on the Empire State Plaza and a nearby arena to make the area more attractive to large conventions.
The facility will offer some 50,000-square-feet of event space, along with parking, kitchens and audio-video equipment.
State officials say 18 events have already been booked for the new center.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan says the construction milestone is a “great sign of progress” for the state’s capital city.
