Schumer: Port of Albany to Receive $17m Upgrade
The Port of Albany will receive $17 million in federal funding to pay for upgrades and an expansion allowing for greater shipment of large cargo.
U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced the funding this week.
The New York Democrat says the money will allow the port to demolish and rebuild a warehouse, rebuild a shipping terminal and improve safety at the port, which he says is the busiest facility of its kind in upstate New York.
Schumer says upgrading the port will expand export opportunities for regional manufacturers, including those who make technology equipment too large to be shipped by road or rail.
The Port of Albany generates an estimated $800 million in economic output annually.
