Lakewood Group Launches Child-Car Safety Campaign

LAKEWOOD

A Lakewood group is launching an annual campaign for drivers to check their vehicles for children before exiting the car.

The “Look Before You Lock” awareness campaign is run by Chaveirim of Lakewood, in conjunction with the Lakewood Police Department.

According to a press release, the temperature inside a vehicle can soar to 110 degrees in less than 10 minutes when the heat outside is 80 degrees.

Chaveirim says that in their experience, the vast majority of incidents are mistakes, when the parent accidentally locked the keys in the car. However, they added, “we have seen people run into a store to just grab something, leaving their kids out in the car.”

Posters was hung last week in shuls and businesses around town.
