IDF Confirms Retaliation for Syrian Artillery Fire

After numerous air strikes carried out in Syria, attributed by foreign media to Israel, but which were officially ignored by Israel, the IDF spokesperson on Monday authorized for publication that IDF ground forces targeted artillery positions of the Assad regime.

The IDF said it destroyed two of the emplacements, from which shelling had been directed at Israeli territory on early Sunday evening, which it characterized as spillover from the fighting in the area near Kuneitra.

Two Tammuz missiles were fired by the IDF at the Syrian targets, which it said were completely eliminated. It was not known if there were casualties.

No air raid sirens sounded in the Golan at the time the Syrian shells landed in Israel.
