Tax Authority Raids Short-Term Lessors

An investigation by the Israel Tax Authority has found that 33 percent of apartment owners in major cities did not report income from rental of their properties, Globes reported on Tuesday.

The 58 audits, which targeted Yerushalayim, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Eilat, focused on short-term rentals arranged through websites such as Airbnb and Booking.com.

All the cases were referred to the Tax Assessment and investigative offices for handling.

The audits represent a continuation of the Tax Authority’s campaign to ferret out tax evaders in the Israeli real estate and rental market.
